Physics Visit by Dr Tom Brown

On Thursday 20th October we were visited by Dr Tom Brown from the Physics department of the University of St Andrews in Scotland. Five classes of year 11 Physics were able to attend the talk where they heard about Dr Brown’s recent expedition to the Antarctic, where he was invited by the Australian government to use cutting edge laser methods to investigate Antarctic food chains. The story was made more exciting as it moved onto the shipwreck and eventual rescue of the entire party from an Antarctic base, an event that made worldwide news.
