Message from the Principal

‘The power of community’

I think you only get a real sense of the power and solidarity of a community when a circumstance puts it to the test. The recent typhoon was one such test, and I think our KGV community responded brilliantly.

Our thoughts and best wishes go out to members of our community impacted by Typhoon Mangkhut last Sunday. I know many people have a significant clean up task on their hands. Our school suffered some minor damage with a few windows smashed, minor roof leakages and doors broken. The biggest loss was the number of trees destroyed or damaged around our site.

A big thank you to our janitors, cleaners and support staff who worked hard to get the school up and running again. Our Business Manager Mr Matt Whiley coordinated the clean-up operations and capably led the team. Thank you also to our teachers who helped with the clean-up and made sure our students settled back into school on the Wednesday. It was a great team effort.

Thank you also to our parent community for their messages of support. It is at times like this that you appreciate the support of the community. The understanding, patience and sense of gratitude expressed by our community over the past few days have been wonderful. The experience has reminded me of the well-known turn of phrase, ‘it takes a whole village to raise a child’.  At KGV School this week, we feel like we live in a caring and connected village, and that is a great place to be.

Kind regards
