‘The next feedback step – external quality assurance’

In previous newsletters, I discussed our desire for continuous improvement, as evident in our KGV School vision statement, which states ‘as an agile school, we collaborate and innovate to make a difference in the communities we serve and lead’.

Seeking and responding to feedback from students, staff and parents is an important aspect of the improvement process. Another element is to seek and maintain accreditation from external agencies as a further means to open our school to analysis, feedback and improvement. To that end, in November, we begin our ‘Council of International Schools’ (CIS) accreditation process.

CIS is a ‘membership community working collaboratively to shape international education through professional services to schools, higher education institutions, and individuals. The CIS vision is to inspire the development of global citizens through high quality international education: connecting ideas, cultures, and educators from every corner of the world’.

Our KGV School accreditation process begins again in November this year. CIS will be addressing some fundamental questions: How does our school demonstrate our commitment to providing high quality international education to students and parents? How do we ensure our school is continually improving and keeping up with leading international education standards?

In preparation for CIS’s first visit, I am required to gain feedback from parents regarding these three questions:

  1. To what degree are our school’s guiding statements (purpose, vision, values and strategic intent) appropriate for all members of our school community?
  2. How well are our school’s guiding statements implemented in practice?
  3. What are our school’s strengths and what are its challenges in implementing its guiding statements effectively?

The feedback session, which I will lead, will involve an informal meeting with a small group of parents to talk through these three questions. I will document the feedback and share this with the CIS accreditation team when they visit the school in November. We anticipate that we will only need one meeting of no longer than one hour. If you have time and can help in this process, please email Betty Ko betty.ko@kgv.edu.hk or registration here.

On a slightly more exciting note, I am off now to our annual KGV Swimming Gala. It is always inspiring to see first-hand the house spirit, participation and genuine enjoyment on days like these. Fingers crossed the weather holds off for another day!

Kind regards
