Electronic Devices – A part of Life!

For most people, mobile phones and laptops are now an essential part of life. Laptops are also a powerful learning tool at KGV School by allowing access for students to ‘anytime and anywhere’ learning as they access online resources, notes, activities and textbooks.

Some parents have expressed concern about their child’s use of phones and laptops, especially with regard to the amount of time they spend on the devices each day in and out of school. At KGV School we encourage a balanced approach and our teachers use a variety of teaching methods that use digital technologies as well as traditional paper and pen activities and note taking.

As a result of the parent feedback and concerns regarding how students use technology in their daily lives and at school, we are in the process of considering how students use devices at school, and in particular at lunch and break time.

The review will involve:

  • Collecting data on student use
  • Talking with students and getting their feedback
  • Talking to staff and parents
  • Reviewing our current policy

At our next ROAR Parent Forum scheduled for 9.30am to 11.00 am Saturday 23rd February we plan to:

  • Share our current Laptop and Device Policy
  • Discuss the feedback from staff, students and parents
  • Present ideas about modifications to our current policy

It is important to note that we are not planning any ‘radical’ moves regarding our Laptop and Device Policy. Our philosophy concerning the use of devices is about educating our students about the benefits and issues regarding the responsible use of electronic devices. Technology is now an essential part of daily life and our challenge and responsibility as educators and parents is to work together to teach our students how to live a balanced and blended life.

We invite all parents to our next ROAR session on the Saturday 23rd and the link to register is here.

This is the link to our current Laptop and Device Policy that has some good advice about responsible use at school and at home.

Our school is committed to working together with our parents and our community to be the best school we can be for our students. Our ROAR sessions are just one way we strive to deliver on our KGV School Vision statement which states that ‘as an agile school, we collaborate and innovate to make a difference in the communities we serve and lead’.

Kind regards
