Dragon Maths 2019

Dragon Maths 2019

On the 13 March 2019, 16 of the strongest maths students from KGV(eight Y8s and eight Y9s) attended a competition known as “Dragon Maths”. There were 4 groups of 4 people, two Y8 teams and two Y9 teams. The competition was hosted by Victoria Shanghai Academy, and numerous schools all across HK were competing. Despite not winning (total scores not yet known), most of the students had a great time and here are some of their comments from the competition…..

Some comments from our teams

Year 8s:

Adrian WONG [U06M]:

I believe we did well, and we tried our best, even though we weren’t able to win. We had a lot of fun and the time was enjoyed. We had used teamwork skills, as well as, math and running skills, to succeed. I definitely will work harder and get 1st place next time, if I can get in!

Jeffrey Chan [N05M]

Even though we didn’t win, we tried our best to win and had excellent cooperation and communication between our group. One thing I personally need to work on is to know when you skip a question and when to work on it, thus saving time and ultimately scoring more points.

Alexander FOO [C01M]:

I think Dragonmaths was a good experience. It was interesting competing with other schools in Hong Kong and it was fun doing something we all enjoy(hopefully!). Although we did not win this time, it was a good experience.

Year 9s:

Jack Cheng [R01M]:

The competition was very enjoyable, I had an absolute blast. Even though we didn’t get the win in the end, it was still a good time. To any people who are competing next year, here are some tips: check your answers, and make sure your team is doing the same thing. Don’t use 87 different methods at the same time.

David Han [C10M]: Although it was a disappointing result, it was still a nice experience. We did well in some areas and we’ll improve for the future.

Eric Wang [N08M]: 2019 Dragon Maths was a rewarding experience that challenged us both physically and mathematically. Although we did not get the result that we wanted, it was still an experience we can learn and develop from.

Chloris Wong [U14M]: 2019 Dragon Maths was a great experience, from the silly mistakes we made, to me writing ‘8KGV2’ upside-down, to the wondrous, tasty cookies and drinks!

Katherine Yan [N06M]:

2019 Dragon Maths was great, balancing almost perfectly fun and frustration. We didn’t place very high, but it was still challenging and just overall great and downright hilarious even when we were getting half a dozen questions wrong.

Chaehoon Yoo [N14M]:

2019 Dragon Maths was a great experience and I enjoyed every bit of it, despite not winning the competition. Dragon maths is unquestionably worth the time and it was an honour for me to compete there.
