JCSRS Maths Challenge

On Thursday 16 March 2017, 12 of our Year 9 students went to JCSR School to help out with their mathematical activities set up for their students.  Along with students from KJS, there was lots of fun, laughter helping students from Sarah Roe School get to grips with the challenges.  As the day wore on, it was clear to see how much our students were gaining in terms of experience, dealing with students with special needs (some with severe difficulties.)

Here are some of their own thoughts:

“Today was a great experience helping JCSRS students. Communicating with the students was a challenge. However, with a little help I was able to. The students were a delight to be with as they were all friendly and enthusiastic.” – Kirsten

“My experience at Sarah Roe was one of a kind and definitely was a rewarding experience which gave me an insight on cooperating with students at Sarah Roe.” – Oscar

” During the Sarah Roe visit, I learned a lot about the students here and what they were like. The hardest part about helping them out was that we weren’t able to cooperate or communicate with them very well. Overall, the day was really fun and interesting.” – Christine

“My experience at Sarah Roe experience was a real eye-opener and it gave me an insight as to how different the lives KGV students are compared to JCSR are.” – Valerie

“Helping out with JCSR math day was an experience to remember.  One thing that was difficult was communicating with the students as some of them couldn’t talk. It was really an eye opener and it made me realize how lucky we are.” – Karisna
