Social Career – Parent Update

Dear KGV Parents

As previously communicated at the beginning of the year, KGV is partnering with Social Career (socialcareer.org), a new innovative volunteer platform that offers many volunteer opportunities to our students, giving them more opportunities to get involved in community engagement.

The school is able to track each student’s volunteer activities with the Social Career platform, as well as promote KGV Student Led initiatives. Every time your child applies for a new volunteer opportunity on the platform, you as a parent/guardian will also receive an email from Social Career, asking for your parental consent, before your child’s application gets processed and sent to the recruiting NGO or school leader.

The Parent view when looking at the Social Career platform will be the full view of all opportunities. However, a function of the pilot we are using is that students registered through school (using their xxxx@kgv.hk) will only have access to the KGV sub view. On this page will only have either:

• KGV’s own student led projects
• Access to NGO’s we have previously established a relationship with

One feature I am exploring with Social Career is that the parent email we attach for approval purposes, could also allow just the KGV view, rather than the entire website of opportunities. I will keep you updated on that development

Please check your junk mail or clutter as some students are experiencing frustrations when their applications are not getting through to the community service committee as the system requires parent action before it arrives.
