Senior Cricket Match Report: 14th March 2017

Our opponents for the day were DMS – Matteo Ricci (DMS-MR), but there was another opponent, the constant drizzle throughout the day which showed no signs of easing. KGV lost the toss and were put in to field by the opposition in the dreary and miserable rain.

KGV started well with Dhananjay Rao and Sourav Kumar each bowling a 3 over spell, restricting the opposition to 34 runs, less than a run a ball. A commendable effort in wet and slippery conditions. Kalhan Challu was then brought into the attack and took two quick wickets to put the opposition on the backfoot. Avinash Dansinghani produced a beauty in the following over to pick up the 3rd wicket of the innings to place KGV firmly on top. But the rain refused to stop and KGV’s fielding fell below standards towards the back end of the first innings, which allowed DMS-MR to post a score of 159-4, a good score considering the conditions that affected both the teams, leaving KGV 160 runs to win. Amongst the wickets for KGV were Kalhan Challu who took 3 wickets and conceded only 18 runs across 4 overs, Avinash Dansinghani picking up 1 wicket. Dhananjay Rao also bowled 4 overs for just 17 runs.

KGV started the chase extremely well. Aarush Bhagwat and Vishesh Bordia forged a 68 run opening stand in just 8 overs, with Aarush scoring a breezy 45. However, a couple of quick wickets including the fall of Aarush put the game back in the balance. Some tight bowling from the opposition coupled with the slow outfield made run-scoring difficult for the batsmen in the middle, and KGV were left with 46 to win off the last 4 overs. Some good shots played by Vishesh brought the equation down to 19 off the last over. However, this ended up being too much to chase in the last over and KGV ended up falling short by just 9 runs. Vishesh however, batted very well and finished KGV’s innings unbeaten on 30.

Although KGV lost what ended up being a very close match, there are a lot of positives we can take away from the match, as well as a lot of things we can learn from and improve upon for the next & last fixture of our senior cricket season.
