Mind Over Matter Interschool Quiz

Over the weekend, KGV sent out two teams of students to take part in in the Mind Over Matter Hong Kong Interschool Quiz held at German Swiss International School.

Out of the 30 participating teams, Team 1 (Katrina Newman, Matthew Heritage and Hilary Ip) were ranked 7th in overall and won the Quizmasters Prize, while our Team 2 (Adrian Wong, Joebie Kong and Owen Kam) got 4th place in overall result. In individual rounds, KGV Team 1 came 2nd in the Science Round, and Team 2 won both geography and comics & cartoons rounds. Let’s hear from the two teams about the quiz day:

“In this year’s Mind Over Matter interschool quiz tournament, KGV put forward two teams to participate in the competition. As one of the teams, our three members consisted of Year 13s; Hilary Ip, Matthew Heritage and Katrina Newman. In contrast to last year’s tournament, competition and questions have been fierce – however this would not stop us from striving to achieve our best. Overall both teams have had an amazing day, performing well and most importantly having fun.

As one of the teams, our team was awarded two prizes on the day – 1st Runner-up for the category of ‘Science & Technology’ and the award for ‘Most Consistent Performance Throughout Categories’. It was a fantastic day filled with excitement and anticipation. We not only challenged our minds but we also made a few friends along the way. Our preparation  for this event consisted of biweekly meetings and we felt that it was well worth it. We can only hope that KGV continues to partake in this fun and intellectual tournament, and to hopefully secure 1st place in the near future. We Year 13s wish the very best for future participants, and to encourage others to sign up. Good luck!”  by Katrina Newman, Team 1

“I am Owen, and I represent KGV Team 2 (Adrian, Joebie, Owen). I am here to share the thoughts of the event today. Today was an enjoyable day, with lots of tension, excitement and prizes (of course). We were extremely proud of ourselves to not only win 2 (almost 3 for the history round, but FIS answered first) subject prizes, but also to make it into the finals of the competition. During the finals, we tried our best, and we managed to tie in third place at the end. However, we lost the tiebreaker, and came 4th place overall, filling us with slight disappointment.
Overall, despite the close encounter to a top prize, we felt that we have achieved more than we expected to already, and we will surely enroll in this competition next year.” by Owen Kam, Team 2
