Message from the Student Development Office

It has been really lovely this week to see how proud students have been of the KGV lion badge as they had their official KGV photographs taken. These photographs mark a moment in time of a student’s KGV learning journey.  I was lucky enough to see the Year 7 year group photograph being taken; my 21st group of year 7 students coming to KGV School!

Challenge Week meetings happened this week, as students and staff discuss itineraries, and make final arrangements for what promises to be another outstanding set of experiences and opportunities for our KGV community. A reminder that Thursday 27 September is the evening when parents are invited into school to speak to leaders of international trips, plus a number of local activities e.g. Year 7 camp. More details will be sent out to you in the next couple of weeks.

This week we have seen a number of students who have been affected by negative behaviour happening on social media. Please can you spend time with your son/ daughter talking through the responsibility attached to students owning mobile devices and the impact their actions on social media can have on themselves and others. Students leave a permanent trace on many social media sites and often do not think through the consequences of comments and photographs posted online. We have had to ask some students to deposit their mobile phone in the Student Development Office for the duration of the school day to limit their interactions on-line. We would really appreciate your support in talking through appropriate use of technology.

Looking forward to the next couple of weeks we have a couple of events which promote positive conversations and give parents/ tutors the data points they need to have meaningful discussions with students.

Starting from Monday 10 September, students will be completing an online questionnaire which assessing their wellbeing. This is an ESF wide initiative and we are hopeful about the information these questionnaire will provide and the support we will be able to offer. Please click here to see a copy of a letter which will be distributed to students providing details and instructions on how to complete the questionnaire and why it is important.

Monday 17 September is when our Student-led Conferences are scheduled to take place. Please click here for the letter containing details of how to sign up for appointments, plus an outline of parent talks scheduled for the day. Year 7 parents, please click here for your letter.
