Some more ‘remarkable’ results

Last week we celebrated our Year 13 graduating class for the outstanding results they achieved in the IB Diploma and BTEC Diploma programs.  Over 25% of our IB Diploma students achieved 40 or more points (as compared to a world average of 10%), over 65% achieved 35 or more points (34% world average) and 99% of our IB students achieved a Diploma (78% world average). Our BTEC Diploma students also did very well, with six students achieving the highest possible grade of Distinction Triple Star.

Our future of great results looks bright with our 2017-18 academic year I/GCSE results released yesterday. The provisional results have a cohort mean grade point average of 6.67 (1 to 8 scale). Incredibly, two students achieved 10 A* results, 10 students achieved 9 A* results and 19 students achieved 8 A* results.

These results are quite incredible, and are the best grade point average result the school has ever achieved. The results again reflect upon the quality of our students, the hard work of our teachers and support staff and amazing support from our parents. Together, we will continue to work hard to ensure our students receive the right balance of challenge and support as individually they strive to be the best they can be.

I have been speaking to some of our senior school students who are new to KGV School this year, some from other Hong Kong international schools and others from overseas. I have talked to them about how they have settled in and what they have experienced in their first few weeks at KGV School. Some of their comments included:

  • Every one really works hard here;
  • If you do not do your homework, or do it well, you are the odd one out;
  • The teachers really know their content areas;
  • The classes are very business-like and everyone gets on with learning;
  • People are friendly and the students and teachers get on really well;
  • There are a lot of smart students here and they put a lot of effort into their studies.

I found the initial observations from students insightful and interesting. Student motivation to work hard and succeed is high and the quality of our teaching is strong. It reinforces our direction as a school to focus on each student and to provide a personalised learning experience. It is about our KGV School vision:

We create a ‘school for one’. A place where each and every person engages in remarkable learning to achieve at high levels and be the best they can be.

 As an agile school, we collaborate and innovate to make a difference in the communities we serve and lead.

Kind regards
