KGV student Hong Kong’s IGCSE Spanish top scorer

Sixteen-year-old Gaurav Arya received the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award last year for his exceptional results in the subject. The Year 12 King George V School student began learning Spanish at school five years ago.

Picking up the language, he said, was almost “intuitive”, thanks to the simple way words are spelled and pronounced.

While the grammar rules make reading and writing easier for Gaurav, he did struggle a little when preparing for the listening and oral exams. But Gaurav overcame these obstacles by looking for additional online learning materials and – most effectively – by making Spanish learning fun.

Ultimately what’s kept Gaurav committed is a real enjoyment of learning the language, thanks largely to his Spanish teacher, Salva Conesa and his “entertaining lessons, which often include fun online quizzes. Congratulations Gaurav!
