Head of Senior School’s Message

Dear Parents,

We had College Assemblies this week. As well as a final farewell to year 13 students from their Heads of College we also had to talk about the behaviour of some of our students whilst travelling on public transport, especially whilst in uniform. We received a complaint from an elderly passenger on a bus about some of our senior students. Whilst the students were not directly being rude towards other passengers, the fact that they were in a rather large group and being very loud came across as quite intimidating. I would be grateful if you could speak to your son/daughter about the importance of modelling good behaviour in public.

Our year 13 students can almost see the end of the tunnel. I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to them talk with pride and passion about their CAS programme during their final interviews. They have described how it has influenced them to lead more of an active, healthy lifestyle, to think about people less fortunate than themselves as well as the global issues that their activities relate to. They have all now finally submitted various assessment documents to the IBO such as their Extended Essay and TOK Essay. There was a huge sigh of relief to have finally passed these over to the examiners. Also this week was one of the highlights of the IB Diploma calendar: the IB Art Exhibition. Once again, the talent on display was mind-blowing. Congratulations to Shanti, Maegan, Felicity, Cherie, Kina, Divya, Prasheena, Lauren, Claire, Junien, Jovy, Manasvee, Serena, Emily, Joey, Sophie, Shannon, Asuka, Jonathan, Andrea and Kayla Rae.

Year 11 Food Technology students completed their GCSE practical examination this week. This was amazing to watch. 3 hours of preparation and execution of 3 dishes. The smells emanating from the room were mouthwatering. To watch this taking place was like watching a real-life MasterChef. I was so impressed with their creativity and skill.

Finally from me, we had a small group of year 11 and 12 students presented with a motivational talk from Mr Ben Walden today. The talk was called Stand Up Tall. I don’t think I have ever seen a happier group of students leaving a room as I did this morning. I have received nothing but extremely positive comments about this. I will try my best to bring Ben back into school to do more work with our students. If you would like to know more please click HERE.
