HEAD OF SENIOR SCHOOL’S MESSAGE

Dear Parents,

The year 12 students had an assembly on Tuesday with Mr Blackshaw which followed a similar theme to the one received by year 11 students last week. This reinforced expected behavior around the school site, the importance of maintaining high uniform standards and the slight changes to uniform that will come into effect from August 2018. With that said, I would just like to ask for your support in ensuring students are wearing the correct, full school uniform before any other items of clothing are worn during the cold weather. Students should be choosing to wear a KGV sweater and fleece before non-uniform sweaters, hoodies and jackets. As the cold weather begins to disappear so should these other items of clothing.

We are still very much in the flu season and there have been a couple of influenza cases reported at KGV. As you have probably heard, the primary schools and kindergartens have now closed. Please ensure that students are taking precautions by washing their hands regularly, eating a healthy, balanced diet and getting plenty of rest. If they are experiencing symptoms of cold or flu then please consider keeping them home to recover.

Year 13 students now have just a few more days of their mock examinations to go. Chemistry is the final examination on Wednesday. The schedule for Core Week has been shared with year 12 IB students. Hopefully the week will prove productive in allowing them to make a good start to their Extended Essay and Internal Assessments. I wish the Physics students well with their Group IV Project as they will be travelling to Central on Thursday to complete this. Period 5 on Wednesday is our annual Chinese New Year assembly. Hopefully the sun will shine on the field for this.

On Tuesday we have the year 11 parent evening. Hopefully you have managed to get appointments with the teachers you wish to speak to. This is a very important part of the feedback calendar providing information about performance in their mock examinations, targets moving forward towards the summer examinations and suitability for courses in year 12. I look forward to seeing you throughout the evening.

With next Thursday being a shortened day, finishing at 12.15, this will be my last parent message before Chinese New Year. All that remains to say is I wish you all a happy and healthy Year of the Dog.
