Options

Dear Parents and Students

Welcome back. The options process this term for years 9 and 11 helps students prepare to make those all-important subject choices. Students are supported through discussions with subject teachers, discussions with form tutors, discussions with older students taking the subjects, year group presentations, LPS lessons, careers guidance and a wealth of information shared through LIONeL. It is essential that students are proactive and make informed choices. Student option choices are used to determine the subjects and the number of subject groups that we offer and therefore inform our timetable and staffing. We are proud of being able to give over 99% of the students their first choice options. Please come and join us on September 2nd for the options presentations during the Student led Conference.

As a school we appreciate students may change or develop new interests and as such we try to support them with option changes. However once the initial timetable has been formed (around Chinese New Year) there is a limit to the changes we can make. Any change relies on the rest of the timetable working and there being space in the groups. We will be offering two windows of opportunity to request option changes. One during March and one in the first term for students who feel they are on a course that does not suit them. We ask students to discuss their request with teachers, parents, tutors, Heads of Department and Heads of College because we want to ensure the students are making an informed decision and are not basing it on misconceptions around the course.  After each of these conversations students should collect the relevant signatures and return the completed form in person to Dr Millington. In the interest of fairness we aim to process the requests in date and time order and will not accept requests that come in after the designated times.

Year 10 and 12 students will be able to request a change between 26th August and 30th of August and details will be in the student bulletin.

Wishing you all a happy and successful new school year.

Heather Millington
