Message from the Principal

Dear Parents

The past week or so has been challenging for our students, families, teachers and community. In the midst of this reality, our school has sought to acknowledge the diversity of opinions amongst our students and community, and to place our school as a community of tolerance, understanding, support and inclusivity. We have been emphasising our key priorities as a School during this time – the safety of our students and staff and the continuity of learning.

Our students generally seemed relieved and happy to return to school on Wednesday, and to reconnect with peers and teachers. I would first like to thank our staff for their efforts and hard work to enable the home learning provision. We know it was not perfect, but there was a genuine effort to ensure students were provided with work and feedback.

Our students, on the whole, were also resilient and dedicated as they engaged with the home learning program. Many were facing difficult circumstances during the time off, and we are proud that so many were able to engage strongly with the home learning activities.

We are also looking to minimise disruption to our lesson time at school during the immediate period ahead. We have considered the range of upcoming events and whether these events require students to miss scheduled class time in both the preparation and performance phases. As a result we have made the following decisions:

  • Our Winter Fair scheduled for December 7 will be postposed
  • The School Show ‘Emil and the Detective’ scheduled for November 26 – 29 will be postponed
  • Our KGV Gala Race Night Fundraiser scheduled for November 27 will be postponed due to transport disruptions
  • Other events such as the Sports Carnival will be modified to limit disruption, especially for our Year 11 and 12 final exam groups.

We will continue to consider school activities that impact class time as we prioritise time in class over the period ahead.

We will also be speaking to our students regarding what extra support they might need over the period ahead. We are determined to work in partnership with our students to do all we can to ensure they are supported emotionally and academically to be the best they can be.

Thank you to all parents for your feedback and ongoing support.

Kind regards
