Message from the Principal

Yesterday, we held our 94th Annual KGV Speech Day Ceremony and our special guests included our ESF CEO Belinda Greer, and our School Council Chair, Jeremy Ip. Thank you to all the parents, relatives and friends who attended to celebrate the diversity of student learning and achievement at our school.

What resonated with me yesterday was the diversity of achievement and leadership that was acknowledged. Our students were recognised for academics, arts, community service and sport, as well as awards that recognised significant academic improvement over time.

This diversity of recognition highlights our underpinning school values and aligns to our strategic direction and purpose as a school. Our vision is to become a ‘school for one’, a place where each and every person engages in remarkable learning to achieve at high levels and be the best they can be. Our 94th KGV Speech Day served to showcase this diversity of student talent, achievement and leadership, and the opportunities provided for students to be the best they can be.

In my speech I also reinforced our famous school motto ‘Honestas Ante Honores (Honesty Before Glory) and how this powerful statement highlights a fundamental truth, that success and achievement is nearly always a result of dedication, hard work and persistence. People rarely experience the glory of success, without the sacrifice and honesty of effort, commitment and failure.

As Jim Collins points out in his famous book ‘Good to Great’, the ‘real path to greatness, it turns out, requires simplicity and diligence. It demands each of us to focus on what is vital. We must sustain effort over a long period of time. It is not glamorous, it is about hard work and determination, much more than a lucky break or exceptional talent’.

What we witnessed at our Speech Day were the products of hard work and talent. This unstoppable combination makes many occurrences of the ‘remarkable’ simply inevitable at KGV School.

A special thank you to Tim Carrell for organising the event and our wonderful music department and all our teachers and support staff who contributed on to our 94th KGV School Speech Day.

Kind regards
