Harrow International Mathematics Competition 2017

Every year, the Senior Harrow Mathematics Competition is held, not surprisingly, at Harrow International School. It is aimed at providing an opportunity for top performing students to collaborate and solve difficult problems.

On Thursday 21 Sep,a total of 15 students attended the competition. All four of our teams excelled, with every team finishing in the upper half. Allan Guo, Emily Hong, Lilian Luong and Adrian Wong finished fourth overall, while Gaurav Arya, Jahan Balani, Takao Kakegawa, and Katie Mak finished second.

The competition encouraged students to step outside their comfort zone, attempt unique mathematical problems, and, most importantly, have a great time. It was a great learning experience that we are sure to repeat again.

Quotes from the students:

Although I was, of course, very happy to place second, the most important experience was to be able to interact with students of other schools and explore our common interests.” Gaurav Arya

Despite the competitive nature of the competition and sometimes stressful conditions, students from KGV thoroughly enjoyed themselves at Harrow. Though… the experience was a little harrowing.Allan Guo

Personally, I think it went pretty swell! I enjoyed it very much, and I think it was a great opportunity for both learning and having fun. Bonus points for the delicious cookies that they provide every year!Emily Hong

“It was a great educational opportunity that taught me about the importance of teamwork and communication in mathematics.Shivang Sachar

I found this competition to be quite interesting, because I had to use my brain quite a bit to solve some of the more challenging questions. I liked the crossnumber part the most. By the way, WHERE WAS KEVIN???Adrian Wong
