Busy corridors, weaving with students from all backgrounds and cultures. The school building echoing years of tradition and achievement. Classrooms, filled with the bustle of a warm, inclusive and vigorous learning environment. On behalf of our student body, we cordially welcome you to King George V School. Established in 1894 as a school for British expatriates, KGV has grown to become one of Hong Kong's finest educational establishments; upholding a history of fine tradition, academic excellence and multicultural diversity.
KGV strives to provide its students with a stimulating and supportive learning environment to encourage independent, resourceful, and global learners, without comprising its unique school spirit. The school offers an international curriculum that tailors to the needs of all students, including the widely recognised International Baccalaureate, to the specialized courses of the Advanced and forthcoming International (BTEC) diplomas for Senior students. Middle School students embark on similar programmes to build solid foundations and prepare them for their next level of academic courses. Students and staff build friendly relationships based on mutual respect, creating a supportive learning environment tailored to every student's needs may it be academically vigorous or a pursuit in one of the school's multitude of extra-curricular activities.
As the school moves into its second year of whole school vertical tutoring- where students in years 7 to 10 and years 11 to 13 are in mixed-age form groups, and its second year of a revised daily timetable, KGV has stepped into a new era of change. Gone are some of the previous school structures, and in their place a distinctive framework that allows for the interaction between students of different ages and the giving of advice amongst peers to strive for greater school unity. This ultimately reflects life in a working world, where interactions amongst people surpass age groups, cultures and courses. Amongst the student body, we also recognise the need to welcome new students into our community. The Peer Mentoring programme serves as an additional bridge between new KGV students, and their older peers to give them a helping hand in adapting to their new learning environment and to cultivate their curiosity
Change has never been a greater prospect on KGV's horizon than it is today. As the school community prepares itself for site redevelopment, we cannot help but feel excited about the new facilities the school community can be proud to call its own. A new science block and a performance arts block just to name a few. These facilities, courtesy of the support of the English School's Foundation, will be a valuable asset to the school community as they enable us to widen our prospects and opportunities.
