King George V School is a school renowned for its seamless merge of cultural diversity, academic brilliance, supportive learning environment and honored traditions. Students at KGV are offered countless learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom, allowing students to grow and prosper on all levels.
KGV has a reputation of having an international focus and global outlook across and beyond the curriculum. With a student body that comprises of many racial and cultural backgrounds, students are able to experience a variety of cultures under a climate of mutual respect. Furthermore, the close-knit relationships amongst students and staff create an inspiring learning environment where young people discover and cultivate their interests and talents across a limitless field of academics, arts, sports and community service.
Students learn in a supportive atmosphere and are offered resourceful support from both teachers and peers throughout their academic journey. This atmosphere is upheld by a distinctive framework that encourages a culture of support amongst students of different age groups. The Peer Support and Peer Mentoring programs offer the opportunity for younger students to be guided through difficulties in school, building friendly relationships between the Middle School and Senior School. Furthermore, Senior School Prefects who monitor and maintain the school’s order act as fine role models in school and give supervision for younger students when needed. Similarly, the Student Council, who are the linking bridge between our students and the senior leadership team, allow students to voice their concerns through a positive and constructive medium. KGV strives to connect students of all kind, creating a sense of communal cohesiveness and support within our working environment.
KGV is perhaps one of the only schools in Hong Kong which can boast such a passion for our house system. Split into four houses, the house system embraces a diverse range of events for students to compete in to win points for their house. Whether it is our annual Swimming Gala or our Evening of Music and Dance, the students of KGV are always involved in a wide range of our events both in and out of school, with many of our students participating in sporting, artistic and musical events ranging from a local level to international level. Our house system also allow our senior students to become House Captains who organise members of their house in competing events and encourage students of all ages to be a part of the fervent house spirit, creating an atmosphere of trust and compassion within the school community.
Although KGV students excel academically, they are also highly enthusiastic about the many creative and service orientated activities the school provides. With a wide range of extra-curricular activities held by both students and teachers, students are given the opportunity to take part in different activities that broaden their abilities and experiences. With weekly organised events such as Community Service and Charity Committee, students regularly participate in helping the local community in charity events including our school rock concert Lion Rock where bands compete to win the votes of the crowd and all profits go to the four charities the school sponsors for the year.
The notion of charity and helping the community is further emphasised during Challenge Week, where for one week a year, students attend a chosen activity either in Hong Kong or abroad where at least one aspect of the trip is service and students can help the community that they are in. For instance on the Kenya trip students painted the classrooms of the school and built ramps so that the disabled children could come in and out of the rooms more easily. The wide range of trips involves students of all age groups, building a relationship between the year groups where the older students are able to help and lead the groups and the younger students are able to learn from the experience of their leaders.
King George V School is far from just a school that assists students through the difficulties of the academia. Instead, the school offers a supportive journey in which processes of discovery, determination, failure and success shape our students as individuals who prevail through difficulties with inquisitiveness, integrity, compassion and perseverance.
We would like to thank you on behalf of the KGV student body for visiting our website and hope that we have been able to give you an insight of the KGV School community.
