Student Council

Established in 1994, the Student Council is an integral part of the School Community. Each academic year, 15 students are elected into the Council through direct student votes.

President:  Michael Jia

As President, it is my job to lead the other 14 members of the student council. I hope to bring together their efforts to bring about effective communication of the student voice

Vice President: Monish Iyer

As Vice President, my role is to help the President manage the Student Council. I also help to make sure that the School is aware of what the students’ views and concerns are.

Secretary: Desmond Lam

As Secretary, my role is to provide assistance to every Student Council member. It is vital that all of my colleagues have a clear understanding of their given duty; and it is my responsibility to record, condense and relay every piece of information to them. There is a saying that 'communication is key to success', I hope to maintain this within the council in order to produce the best results possible for our wider school community!

Treasurer: Amrit Daswani

As Treasurer, I administer the finances of the Student Council; I am ultimately responsible for handling all the funds by setting up and maintaining an account for the council. I advise the council on matters relating to finance and perform cost analysis of activities and projects proposed by the student body. Furthermore, I help coordinate fundraising projects and formulate an active budget. To cap it all, I aim to spread the funds appropriately for an enhanced KGV student life.

Major Events Coordinator: Raj Amarnani

The major events that happen at KGV are plentiful and as Major Events Coordinator my job is to ensure that not only do a lot of these operations run smoothly but also to make sure that they sustain a link with the student council so that the students get a say as to how they run. Furthermore it is my job to liaise with the co-curricular activities around KGV and make them a part of the thinking process in the Student Council in terms of expanding their activities to a higher scale. On the agenda this year there are many events planned, possibly in accordance with the PTSA, which we will be managing so as to raise funds for the council and thus help us to broaden our productive developments.

elson Education Coordinator: Javier Leung & Sanborn Li

Education is always a key part of a school, nonetheless for KGV. As Education Coordinators, our task is to help effectively implement the senior leadership team's education policies by offering valuable student input (from the student body) and negotiating ways to protect and extend student interest. With the new school day schedule and the full exercise of vertical tutoring across the school, we will be working closely with the senior leadership team to explore ways of implementing such policies. Students are here to learn and we will make sure that their learning experiences are to be specifically tailored for them. We are here to listen, reflect and represent the student perspective towards education in KGV.

Senior School Representative: Tony Chen & Tom Bradford

We aim to bridge the gap between the Senior School and the Student Council so we can work together to make critical decisions that shape a better KGV environment. As Senior School Representatives, we will be closely working with the senior school administration - collaborating to take the necessary steps and actions to respond to student perspectives and concerns. We are also responsible for organizing the Year 13 Pantomime and the Student Council Hustings that will determine the next leaders of KGV.

prateek Middle School Representative: Vinay Vaswani & Queenie Chan

As Middle School Representatives, our role is to act as the link between Middle School and the Student Council, ensuring that voices from younger peers are also heard and attended to. To gather opinions from lower years, regular meetings with the Middle School Council—comprised of representatives from Y7 to Y10—are held, where topics such as enhancing usage of PSE sessions and allowing Y10s to bring in their own laptops are discussed. We truly appreciate any other additional input, so please feel free to approach us with any concerns or suggestions for a better Middle School!

peter PTSA Representative: Holly Urquhart & Roxana Lau

As this year's PTSA Representatives, our primary role is to organize the student led annual Karnival as well as voicing the student body's opinion during the monthly PTSA meetings in order to strengthen the bonds within our school.  We are the only ESF School with a student voice within the PTSA.  This year we aim to develop and tailor the PTSA shop to fit the new changes in KGV.  If you have any ideas for the PTSA, for Karnival or anything else feel free to drop us an email.

tonyelson Healthy Eating Representative: Sanborn Li & Tony Chen

The school canteen is an inseparable part of the school community. In order to ensure the student body greater opportunities to voice their opinions and hence improve the quality of the catering service offered at KGV, the Student Council has particularly established a new position this year- Healthy Eating Representative. Our main role is to collect student opinion with regards to the school's Healthy Eating policy and afterwards reflect it towards the senior leadership team and the canteen when we meet occasionally as the "Healthy Eating Committee". It is our responsibility to negotiate better quality food during the process and make sure that the food choices offered have considered the student voice; In the meantime we also strive to provide solutions toward general canteen issues such as congestion and quality and to brainstorm ideas for new developments regarding the canteen.

Public Relations Director: Angela Wu

As Public Relations Director, I manage communication between the Student Council and the student body; it is my responsibility to ensure complete transparency between the Student Council, staff, students, parents and other groups. I will try my best to ensure that students at KGV feel informed about the issues we are prioritising, the action we're trying to take and the progress we're making. This way, I hope not only to ensure that students gain a better understanding of how the SC works, but more importantly, that the SC is taking a direction which the student body is most happy with.
