Prefects |
The Prefect system in KGV finds its roots nearly a hundred years ago. Over history, its reputation, excellence and prestige has continued to flourish. KGV Prefects are responsible leaders and role models. They uphold school values and represent KGV in many whole-school events, including Speech Day, Colours Evening, and Parent Evenings. In partnership with staff, prefects conduct daily duties around school.
Each year a team of around forty prefects from Year 13 are chosen to lead the Senior School, whilst eighty prefects from Year 10 are chosen to lead the Middle School. The vigorous application process and a diverse range of criteria for nominations ensure that each year, the best and most capable group of students is chosen.
From the prefect body, KGV students and teachers elect six Senior Prefects (a Head Boy, Head Girl, and four deputy heads) to lead and co-ordinate the prefect team. They have the additional responsibility of greeting guests, meeting the School leadership team, and are consulted regarding school policy and future planning.
The Prefect tradition is integral to the KGV experience. Apart from facilitating the running of the school, Prefects also stand for the school's positive ethos: integrity, school spirit, open-mindedness, leadership, and community service.
