You may think that the key to making our day brilliant was the hours and hours of preparation we put into this, but in fact it’s the heart and energy from both the girls and us which was the driving force of it all. That same energy will continue to drive this journey onwards.
-Gloria
Being able to see this group go through their program today has allowed me to remember the joy, the tears and the enthusiasm I felt this time last year. Although it’s from a completely different perspective this time around, it still had the same emotional impact and this will definitely be another heart warming experience for me.
-Toni
Whilst watching one of the spring blossom performances, we all held the hands of the little girls by our side. And although their hands were cold and slightly dirty, you can see in their anxious smiles that they were so full of life. Today was only a mere part of our amazing experience to come.
-Vivian
The once empty classrooms were filled with their hopeful voices when we taught them what we prepared. The bonding between the Spring Blossom children and us can be felt even by the teachers in their school.
-Kelvin
Growing up in Hong Kong with an above average background made the contrast between us and them so much greater than I had ever anticipated. The lack of basic sanitary facilities appalled me, but the fact that this was part of the children’s daily lives made me realize how much we take such things for granted.
-Natalie
Spring Blossom once again amazes me. The enthusiasm and the children’s optimism brought me to tears when we first arrived with the school preparing a marching band to greet us, despite the fact that we were students with minimal teaching abilities. This Spring Blossom group showed so much passion today even with the minor set backs – these couple of days are going to fly by.
- Winnie
The mass preparation before the trip had proved different to what we expected today. Words cannot explain the feeling and excitement felt with the spring blossom girls. What will tomorrow bring us?
-Sadi
I never expected a mass of children waiting for us to come amongst them, with a whole marching band, perfectly in tune, and others welcoming us with flower bouquets lining the whole path to the school. It was only when we were walking past them that I truly realized how much this Spring Blossom trip meant to the children, and to me too. It was touching beyond words; I’ll never forget the smiles on their faces.
- Charlotte
I didn’t expect any tears on the first day- not until I saw how we were warmly welcomed by the marching band, the happy faces of, and how much our visit meant to the spring blossom girls and the school kids. I couldn’t exactly work out why I was so happy and excited, but I truly understand the reason why there was so much joy hidden in there timid smiles.
- Jenny
Heartwarming. This was how the smiles of the girls made me feel. Their laughter and excitement were so sincere and innocent that it bought warmness to everyone’s hearts. We were able to overcome all the problems that we met, and our group was able to bond and unite together. The girls’ happiness and joy touched the Spring Blossom group deeply, and I am sure that during the following days, laughter of joy will be surrounding the group wherever will go.

As soon as I got off the bus walking towards the school, tears slowly started to fill my eyes. It was a really touching moment which I did not expect. You could also see their anticipation and hopes in their eyes. As soon as English teaching started, I was amazed as to how much they knew already. Their smiles also made me put all my energy and effort into teaching them as much as I can. They were keen to know more about us and to also learn as much as they can. It has truly been an unforgettable day.
- Michelle
Today had been an overwhelming wave of mixed emotions. Greeted by their own mini procession, their warm welcome and enthusiasm truly touched every moment of the day.
- Elaine
Amazing, Exciting, Sweet!! First day, full of love and enjoyment. We all left the bus and
Spring Blossom. It’s only been the first day with these beautiful girls and I can confidently say that it was the most amazing day of my life. It was the first time that I have ever felt true love and care from strangers. I heard from all the people who went last year that would be the most treasured experience of any one persons life and until I got off the bus to the school and walked down the road with the most amazing welcome and when I saw the smiles on all those adorable girls faces, it was then that I realized what they were everyone was talking about from last year. Our day was filled tears of joy, laughter and smiles and I can truly say that I have no real words to express what I went through on this day, October 30th, 2006.
- Resham
No matter how much time we had to prepare for this day, none of us were really prepared for the overwhelming enthusiasm of their welcome, or the emotions that welled up within us while they showed their willingness to learn and teach.
-Ingrid
No words can explain the emotions felt during the day; the children didn't hesitate to come up to us and display affection despite the fact that we only just met them.
-Debrina
Never before have I been reminded by children of such young age to cherish every moment, and to be grateful towards every tiny experience that comes my way.
-Sanam
Today has been so completely eye-opening and heart-warming that what we have all felt, and experienced, today has been truly indescribable; words cannot describe the enthusiasm that the Spring Blossom Children displayed; the smiles on their faces were unforgettable.
-Nadia
We are told that we should appreciate every little thing in life because those are the most significant. Usually it takes us years to understand this saying and even more years to appreciate it. These children have already taken this saying to heart and enjoy every single thing that we do with them. It was amazing to see these children fill with joy and laughter at things so simple.
-Aaron
Amazing day, I just realized today how lucky I am compared to those children. However, despite the condition they live in, you can see smiles on all their faces perhaps more than that you could see on us. They are easily satisfied, they are happy over very small things, and we really meant a lot to them. It was great to see them leaving all happily at the end of the end expecting and waiting for us tomorrow.
-Catherine C
It didn’t strike me once during the day that the kids we were working with were any more disadvantaged than we were; smiles do seem to make fantastic veneers.
-Rushabh
A beautiful welcoming, followed by a beautiful day.
-Hanisha
I witnessed it: a smile says it all.
-Alvin
Smiles are contagious. When you’ve seen the smiles on their faces, you just can’t help but smile as well. =)
-Catherine T.
It has been a tremendous day, filled with laughter and enthusiasm throughout.

The magical moment I witnessed was at the end of the day. When all the Spring Blossom kids were together, and we teachers were teaching them our theme song, two young boys were looking at me. I was standing so they decided to stand and as soon as I decided to sit they followed me. What touched me was when I was sitting with the two kids; they decided to relax on my knees. They were looking at me, smiling and singing without thinking about anything at all. I went off tune couple off times, but what amazed me was that the kids were singing exactly as they were taught. I realized that those kids have a lot of talent which they unfortunately cannot display.

How long does it take to bond with a stranger very closely? A
year? A month? Well, as for me, it only took 10 minutes and a
handshake. They were already treating me like I was their big
brother, being so selfless. That is something I really admired.
