One modern Indian dance, two acapella songs, three weeks until departure, four days of enervating activities.  This all adds up to countless rehearsals ranging from the outstretches of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology to the everyday Tsim Sha Tsui Starbucks.  With eighteen students, already filled with exams pressures, getting everyone into the same room became the hardest struggle.

Meetings ranged from lunches in the school conference room to the fine taste of Italian dining at Fat Angelo’s.  Formal meetings of administration and formalities led by Mr. Boyce and Mr. Ensor were normally disrupted by the random jokes and comments of Wang.  However, meetings chaired by Wang himself took a twist in leadership style, from democracy to fascist dictatorship, both achieving the common goal of getting the job done.  Thanks must go out to the kind staff of Starbucks under Kowloon Hotel for ‘voluntarily’ lending us half of their premises.

Even with the cramped up spaces of Janet’s apartment, our amazing talent and coordination allowed us to dance to Dinisha’s version of Soniye (a modern Indian dance).  After countless hours of rehearsals and hearing constant yelling of 5-6-7-8 (or as Cadence does it,

One of the highlights of my rehearsing experience was listening to the harmonising sounds of Coca-Cola and In the Still of the Night.  However, listening to the MP3’s only deterred our spirits, as we actually attempted to sing our own arrangement of the two acapella songs.  After much note bashing and tuning our voices of our mobile phones, up to this point, we still can’t keep our parts.  But, passengers of flight CA1207 will be pleased to find out that they will be enlightened with ‘voices of angels’ (and of course, Wang’s voice as well).

Everyone:  ...

As I sit here typing this article, one can only imagine what the days to come will actually be like.  I can only hope for the best.  However, if everything goes as well as in the rehearsals, at least we’ll have some fun.
