INTRODUCTION
If you’re reading this, you’re very
likely one of the lucky ones. If, after the summer holidays, you have
another hard year of school to look forward to…you’re definitely one of
the lucky ones. Sounds crazy? Put it into perspective…around the world,
there are millions of children who do not get an education. In China, the
problem is especially severe, with the one child policy causing boys to be
favoured by parents; in the poorer parts of China, this means a huge
number of girls with no chance of an education, leaving them with little
future.
KGV has been a long-time supporter of Spring Blossom, a charity which
promotes and sponsors education for these girls. For the past three years,
KGV students have visited Spring Blossom girls in China. This year,
starting Wednesday the 7th of July, 17 students from KGV will
visit a group of these Spring Blossom girls in Haibei, in Qinghai
Province.
The aim of the trip is to cross the boundaries of culture and background
between two groups of young people whose lives are so different,
allowing each to experience the culture of the other,
