For the people who are reading this website, think about how lucky you really are. We can afford basic necessities such as food, clothing and education. You may not notice, but there are people in China who do not share the same privileges as us, and millions of children do not receive the proper education they deserve. Sadly this tends to affect girls more than boys, since families in China tend to favor boys over girls due to traditional favor and thoughts. Although the girls are poor, it doesn’t mean they aren’t talented or gifted. They can do things just as well as us, but sadly the lack of education and finance leaves them with little future. KGV has been a long time supporter of Spring Blossom, a charity organization aimed at helping girls in China who share the same circumstances as stated before. Our duty is to promote and sponsor education for them. For the past four years, KGV has visited many different locations in China and has provided support for the girls. This year, starting Tuesday the 29th of June, 21 selected students will visit a group of Spring Blossom girls in Kashgar and Urumqi, which is located inside the Xinjiang province. In our group of 21, we consist of a variety of people, each responsible for our own part. We will be accompanied by 4 members of staff, a few past students and Jennifer Chow, the leader and creator of Spring Blossom. The main aim of the trip is to provide help and support for the Spring Blossom girls. Other aims include, the exchanging of culture and lifestyles, since the KGV students and Spring Blossom girls share extremely different lives, which allows us to form friendships and bonds between them and us. Of course, the trip is also about excitement and fun! We hope this trip will leave a valuable impact on the girls and us and it is an experience we will never forget in our lives. The KGV team spent countless Saturday mornings rehearsing for the trip. We practiced a variety of events such as dances, songs, arts and crafts and even Tai Chi. We were told to not expect much from the place we are going to and as a result, many changes had to be made to our itinerary, which we spent many hours fixing and correcting. We had to be prepared for anything, as quoted from Mr Boyce: “This is a Spring Blossom Trip, prepare for the unexpected” If you want to know more about our journey, please log on for daily diary updates and other information.
