Students of KGV are expected to exercise self-discipline and to show courtesy and consideration to staff, fellow students and members of the public. They are also expected to demonstrate a pride in their appearance and to conduct themselves properly both in school and outside.
Personal Property
The safety of personal property is the responsibility of the student, and students should not bring more money or belongings to school than are needed for the day. If students are bringing valuable items into school the school cannot take any responsibility if the item is lost or stolen. Every student is provided with a locker and items of any value should be kept in the locker.
If a student suspects that an item has been stolen this should be reported to the form tutor initially who where appropriate refer you to the Vice Principal (Student Development). Items of lost property are handled by the PTSA.
Theft
KGV does not tolerate any form of theft and reserves the right to always investigate and act when it suspects that theft has taken place.
The school has taken steps in order to ensure that theft is kept to a minimum.
· All students are provided with lockers in which their valuable can be stored.
· Students are encouraged not to bring expensive items in to school.
· Cameras are placed in strategic areas and video footage will be stored for a week of student movements.
Each case of theft at KGV is dealt with individually with consideration being given to the age of the students, their previous conduct and the intention behind the act, with premeditated acts being dealt with more severely.
Mobile phones
Mobile Phones, portable music players and games consoles are not to be used in school. If these items are brought into school they must be kept in students’ lockers. Mobile phones can be used after school from 3:20 on the school drive in the front of the school. They cannot be used anywhere else in school. Senior Students may use portable music devices in the Senior School Common Area but they cannot be used in any other part of the school. Mobile phones, portable music players and games consoles will be confiscated if students are caught using them around school or in lessons. The mobile phone policy will be reviewed in the Autumn Term of 2009 and details will be communicated to parents and students.
Use of video and cameras in School
The use of cameras and video recorders is not allowed in school unless permission has been sought beforehand from a teacher.
Movement around school
The lift is out of bounds to all students unless they are carrying a large musical instrument. To ease movement around the school students should keep to the left in the corridors and on the stairs.
Physical Activity at Lunchtime
Students must not take food or drink onto the field or quads, and must be in PE kit or a plain t-shirt if they are taking part in any physical activity.
Language Policy
English is the common unifying language of student and staff. It is studied by all students and is used in both learning and social environments. KGV recognizes the English language as having an inclusive influence on school life. We will not tolerate the exclusion of any group or individual through the inappropriate use of language, as this is judged to be bullying.
