Canteen

As students spend a quarter of their waking lives in school, one big step to improve their nutrition is to offer and promote healthy food and drink choices throughout the day.

KGV is committed to providing Healthy food for students, staff and visitors because we recognise the importance of Healthy eating in developing healthy lifestyles. We will encourage students to eat a balanced diet and do not permit the sale of highly processed and or refined food or drinks high in sugar, fat or additives and, as a result, we will provide only healthy choices to our students while they are in school.

We do not intend to act as the "food police" we have made clear to students, staff and parents that, while we hope they will support the Healthy Eating Imitative, they are free to bring in whatever they wish from home.

The schools canteen contractor Sodexho through their Nourish concept provides a range of healthy, nutritious foods and drinks e.g. smoothies and freshly squeezed fruit juices, fresh fruit, dried fruit, cereals, yoghurts, breads, crackers, cheese, Sushi, muffins, hot western and Asian dishes and sandwiches. Menus are changed every week.

Pre-ordering Food
Pre-ordering is now available in the school canteen. Students can fill in the form here and give it to the canteen one day in advance -- this will help ensure they don’t miss out on their favorite items.

Payment

Payment by Octopus card is encouraged as it allows the canteen staff to serve students more efficiently, effectively and hygienically. In addition we also offer the add value system on all three canteen outlets.

School Healthy Eating Committee and Policy

The Healthy Eating Committee with representatives from the student, parent, staff and Sodexho body meets once a term to approve new menu items and receive feedback from the various stakeholders.
