Religious Studies Department at KGV

The Religious Studies Department at KGV is relatively young. The Department grew under the leadership of Ms Bronwen Jones who joined the school in 1992. In 1995 Lynda Dack became the Head of Department. By 1996 Religious Studies was taught to all students at KS3 and to  small groups at KS4 and KS5.

Rachael Woollett arrived from the  UK in 1996 as Head of Department. The department now has three large GCSE groups and two A level groups in Years 12 and 13. It is the most popular humanity option at A level.

All staff are expected to teach all years and levels of the subject although specialisms and expertise have to be taken into account as well as the work load with the amount of lower school marking and report writing. From 2001 the RS department will have more teaching time at KS3 as well as  new teaching space.

All members of staff are expected to use a variety of teaching and learning styles and not rely on textbooks in every lesson. Schemes of work specify certain activities but it is expected that specialist staff will use these only as a guide to subject content. Learning objectives and the aims of Religious Studies at KGV must always be taken into account.
