Aims of Religious Studies at KGV
As a Department we believe the aims of our subject are as follows:-
| To provide all the pupils, regardless of belief, gender or race, with a sound knowledge of the world's religions and their beliefs and practices. | |
| To explain to the pupils not just what happens but why and how things happen. This will allow for a greater understanding if themselves, the community around them and the world as a whole. | |
| To allow pupils to allow to appreciate the diversity not only of the world but of their country, city and classroom, and understand that for some people there is a spiritual dimension to life. | |
| To help pupils to become better citizens through learning about others and understanding their practices and beliefs, hence creating an atmosphere of tolerance and respect | |
| To allow the pupils to have the chance to talk and think about the ultimate questions of life e.g. Where do we come from? Where are we going to? What put us here? | |
| To give pupils the opportunity to discuss and think about their own beliefs, attitudes and morals whilst also listening to and appreciating that others may also have different opinions. | |
| To contribute to the cross curricular areas of health education, personal and social education, gender and multi cultural issues as well. | |
| To ensure the delivery of the National Curriculum themes and dimensions: Spiritual, Moral, Cultural and Social. | |
| To develop the students ability to evaluate issues arising from the study of religion, philosophy and ethics using evidence and argument. |
