Jewish settlement in Palestine

Date: July 22^nd, 1946

Your report must focus on the early years of Jewish settlement in Israel /Palestine.

Event to focus on: The bombing of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem.

Your news report must focus on the bombing of the hotel and the reasons behind it. This was a major event and would have received lots of coverage, if CNN had existed then. 

You should have the following people in your ‘broadcast’:

• News anchor – this is the person at the desk who gives the initial report.
• Reporter at the scene – describes what is happening
• People you may wish to interview – eyewitnesses to the event, political leaders who may wish to comment, experts on Arab/Israeli/British affairs who can give background information

Background information to include:

• Briefly – the claims both groups have on the land
• Jewish immigration to Palestine – why it started and why it increased – focus on the 1930’s and the Jews fleeing Hitler.
• The reaction by the Arabs to the Jews
• British attempts to resolve the issue – especially their attempts to limit immigration.
• Why the Jews resorted to terror.

People you may need to interview:

• David Ben-Gurion
• Haj Amin – Mufti of Jerusalem
• Someone from the British High Command

• Where will you interview people – will you have some ‘in the studio’ and some ‘on location’?
