Recruitment Introduction |
All contractual issues and the overall management of the main recruitment cycle in January and February each year are handled by ESF. Please refer to their website for up to date information www.esf.edu.hk.
Teaching at KGV
You will see from the ESF website that the remuneration package for teachers is an attractive one. ESF teachers generally have high standards of living to complement the excellent professional environment we can offer. We have provided some short video introductions to KGV life and living in Hong Kong under "General Information".
For details of each job vacancy please explore the "Teaching Positions" link which will provide a brief job description for each post and a description of the Learning Area within which the post holder works.
We have introduced a new Management Structure in 2008. This structure is built around 9 Learning Areas each led by a Learning Director. The promoted posts within each of these Learning Areas are accountable to the Learning Director and a designated Vice Principal. Each Vice Principal is responsible for 2 (or 3) Learning Directors. A job description matrix has been agreed for each Learning Area, detailed job descriptions reflect this matrix. All this information is available through the "Management Structure" link.
KGV has high expectations of students and teachers. Nearly all teachers say that the students' attitudes to learning make this a very special place to work. We are also keen to offer as much Professional Development as we can within the structure of the 5 day CPD entitlement and in addition to this. We have good links across ESF with Curriculum Groups and other networks. You are encouraged not to work in isolation and to develop links with excellent practitioners across the Foundation.
Each year we seek to appoint a range of teachers and the variety of backgrounds of our new teachers is wide.

Don't think that because we used to teach an English Curriculum we aren't interested in teachers from other countries. We have Australians, New Zealanders, Canadians, Americans, Chinese, Hong Kongers, Indians and others all working productively within the school. This International variety is stimulating and inspiring.

Don't think that because we offer International Baccalaureate Diploma we are only interested in IBD teachers. The quality of the teacher is more important than the experiences they have had. We believe in training and there are numerous examples of teachers adapting quickly and effectively to the challenge of a different curriculum.

Don't think that because we are a successful school we only want to appoint experienced practitioners. We value the input of new ideas, the challenge of professional discourse and a staffroom that reflects all age groups and backgrounds. In some circumstances it is an advantage to be relatively inexperienced.

Don't think that because we are an International School you have to have had international experience. We frequently appoint from national systems and in many cases colleagues return to these systems successfully when they leave KGV.

What are we looking for?
Excellent teachers committed to the learning of their students
Teachers who are interested in their own professional development
Teachers who enjoy working collaboratively and cooperatively
Teachers who want to participate in the wider life of the school
Teachers who are excited about working in an International environment
If you have these qualities, I look forward to receiving an application and hopefully meeting you for an interview.
Support Staff
We value support staff as a vital part of the KGV team. Your voice is now represented on the School Council and in ESF and we regularly inform and consult support staff colleagues on matters of concern. It is a very strong team and we are usually able to attract excellent applicants for the wide range of jobs we need each year. The overall Manager of Support Staff is Colleen Melvin, our School Business Manager, although there are frequently other colleagues (sometimes a teacher and sometimes a support staff colleague) who may have a direct responsibility for your work.
Best wishes
Ed Wickins
KGV School Principal
