Communication between Parents and School

I know that many of you have been very impressed with the weekly e newsletters and with our much improved website.  We are continuing to develop our communication and you are now about to be encouraged to use our parental Lionel Log In.  As I have written on the website (click here) : "we enjoy hearing your views and engaging in discussions and you are always most welcome to come in to school if you have any concerns".  I would like to outline a protocol for communication between parents and the school that will help us all understand the context and reduce misunderstandings.

KGV is a very busy place.  Many teachers will be in front of their classes for 4, sometimes 5, of the 5 taught periods each day.  This means that they may not be able to take telephone calls or respond to emails immediately.  Their key concern is teaching their lessons and we all support this aim.  Please bear this in mind when you are trying to contact a teacher in the school.

We have expanded our administrative support.  In many cases the Receptionist, or one of the School Administrators will be able to deal with your question.  We value their support but sometimes they do not have the answer at their fingertips.  Please treat our support staff respectfully and give them time to answer your question properly.

We will respond urgently to an urgent problem, other issues may be complex and require a considered response that may take some time to prepare.  We value teamwork in the school and it is important that all staff who are dealing with a particular issue or student are properly consulted.  Please give us a reasonable amount of time to respond either to email or telephone calls.  Our aim is to respond within 48 hours and often it will be quicker than this.

It can be confusing to know who to contact.  In short; if the issue is about your son / daughter’s general wellbeing in school you should contact the Tutor in the first instance; if the issue is about a particular subject you should contact the teacher of the subject; if the issue is a complaint you should follow the published and agreed complaints procedure on the website (click here). Please try to contact the most appropriate person to deal with your issue.

We are excited by the prospect of giving parents increased access to LIONeL.  There will be some teething problems as we develop new ways to work together but we know we will be able to resolve these problems and take another leap forward in terms of communicating in the interests of our students and their learning.
