HKEF Interschools Equestrian Higher Division Heat March 2018

On Wednesday 14th March KGV were represented by 7 riders in two teams in a heat of the HKEF Interschools Equestrian Competition. All riders had been practicing hard in their bid to qualify for the final (which will be contested by the 4 top schools after the heats) on the 21st April at Lo Wu. The KGV A1 team (Annabel Dyson, Rachel Mason, Zoe Koerber and Julie Bardin) won the day scoring 415 points for their dressage and show jumping. This is a record for this competition with no school in the 12 years that this competition accumulating so many points in the heat. This virtually assures this team a spot in the final which will mean KGV has made the final of this competition every year since its beginning in 2007 – the only school to get anywhere near this great achievement.

In the dressage Zoe Koerber was placed first with Annabel Dyson not far behind her in second.

In the jumping KGV really showed its strength with Zoe again winning, Annabel second, Rachel Mason 5th and Julie barding 6th.

The KGV A2 team (Gemma Duncan, Veerliene Uiterwaal and Natalie Fu) also needs congratulating on their efforts. Even though they did not gain a ribbon they rode very well and were placed 3rd on the day.

The head judge, Ms Angela Kwong, who is CEO of the HKEF, commented that the KGV teams needed special mention for not only their horse riding ability but their resilience, good sportsmanship and the fact that they always put the team in front of the individual.
The KGV A1 team will now busily prepare for the final in April. As in the past the winners of the competition will be awarded a trip for a week to the famous Ingestre Stables in England where they will train with some of the best instructors in the UK.
Finally special thanks the Mrs Bardin and Mrs Uiterwaal for providing the transport for the riders on the day and to Mrs Koerber who, with Mrs Uiterwaal assisted the dressage judges in writing down comments and scores.
