The Battle of Wounded Knee

Your Task is to produce a one page article about the Battle of Wounded Knee and its effects. You should provide the following information but it should be fairly brief – with some photographs.

You will find this on the Home server page (Intranet-server1-public- -history-Year 7-Battle of Wounded Knee.) You can copy it on to your own file if you wish – then make your own word document so that you can produce an illustrated account.

The account should include:

a) date of battle and who was fighting

b) the reasons for the conflict

c) a brief outline of what happened during the battle

d) one or two reasons why the Indians lost

e) what you think the importance of the battle was

Click on to the following websites in order to find the necessary information and then transfer pictures and write in your answers to the above points on your own document

http://www.ibiscom.com/knee.htm gives quite a short article and one person’s personal memory of the battle. It also includes pictures and a map – this is probably the best of the references. You can give one or two brief quotations from the personal memoires given

http://search.britannica.com/frm_redir.jsp?query=(battle%20AND%20of%20AND%20wounded%20AND%20knee)&redir=http://www.pbs.org/weta/thewest/wpages/wpgs400/w4bigft.htm gives short details of the life and death of Bigfoot – this is useful if you want to know a little more about Bigfoot

http://www.britannica.com/bcom/eb/article/1/0,5716,37421+1+36703,00.html gives an account of the Ghost dance

http://www.britannica.com/bcom/eb/article/5/0,5716,79605+1+77525,00.html gives a straightforward account of the battle of Wounded Knee (no pictures)

You can of course also use your text book for the necessary information

Try to design your page so as to show one or two photographs – put a heading across the top. The writing should be clear and and fairly brief, concentrating on the points suggested above
