Peer Mentoring was once focused on one to one sessions whereby older students mentored younger ones. This has changed since 2009, under the new Peer Mentoring Leadership Team.
Currently, the Peer Mentoring Team consists of 35 highly selective individuals with bold characteristics who support and help any students in need.
Many students from year 9 to year 12 demonstrated a high level of interest in becoming a Peer Mentor, the concept of this program has therefore branched out and consists of two core elements: activity-based mentoring and one-to-one mentoring.
Activity-based mentoring allows Peer Mentors to run activities they are passionate about. Younger students are then able to participate in whichever activity they enjoy most. Each year we run 8 activities related to sport and creativity- preparing younger students for the CAS system and also actively providing them with a abundant level of social opportunities to those who are new to KGV.
We provide this extensive range of activities to over 160 participants, year 7s and 8s can befriend older students in KGV. We gather the utmost gifted students and encourage them to share their talents with others.
During the school year, the Peer Mentoring Team will hold a few large scale events such as a Christmas party, or inter-year competitions. This allows participants to enhance student-relationship through a fun and active approach.
On the other hand one-to-one mentoring is where an older student gives support and guidance to a younger one. This involves guiding them through the organizational, social and behavioral stress in life. Confidentiality is a necessity. Students can request to attend one-to-one mentoring sessions via their teachers, or teachers can recommend their student to this service at any point during the school year.
The Peer Mentoring Team always welcomes anyone who needs casual support or serious assistance through one-to-one mentoring.
As long as you know how to ask for help, there is always going to be a solution waiting of you.
If you have any inquires or if you would like to request one-to-one mentoring for your student, please contact Jimmy Wan (Chairman) or Ms Ray Heath (Co-ordinator)
