Challenge Week 2010

BRIEF ITINERARY

Side-by-side farm is a community project that has been set up for by local farmers with the help of UWC Singapore. Their aim is to be a self-sufficient farm that is able to generate income to reinvest into the local community to raise the standard of living of all those involved.

Students will undertake much-needed practical work at the farm and part of the preparation for the week will involve creating and setting up a suitable project. The sort of work completed by previous trips includes the creation of prawn ponds, constructing a communal kitchen, building a shower block, working with livestock and helping with the general day to day running of the farm.

The final 3 days of the trip will be based in Kuta. Here students will join up with an internationally-renowned surf school and will learn how to ride some of the cleanest, glassiest green waves in the world. Whether you are a seasoned pro, goofie or a complete novice, teaching will be tailor-made to suit your needs.

During this trip you will be immersed in Balinese culture; staying within the local community, walking through paddy-fields to the farm, getting an opportunity to sleep under the stars in a traditional bale and even learning a spot of Balinese dancing! The warmth and hospitality of the local community will ensure an unforgettable experience.
