Creative Hong Kong

BRIEF ITINERARY

Travel to locations in Hong Kong to make sketches and write creatively using the setting as inspiration. There is no need for students to be good at art, as the emphasis will be on observation, but an interest in creative writing is required.

Itinerary: Outlying islands, New Territories villages and Hong Kong Island

The first part of the morning to be spent observing and sketching, the second in drafting pieces of writing.

Afternoons will be for sharing and developing the morning’s work. Guidance will be given on writing techniques.

Friday to be spent in school selecting sketches and polishing written work.

Creativity

It has been said that sketching is learning to see. Making a sketch is a challenging task, but it makes you look at things more closely and notice things you might never have observed before. You may not be good at art, but the end result will be a unique record and will give you a sense of accomplishment.

Similarly, creative writing ideas can come from noticing details in the world around you. These can stimulate you to write descriptions of settings or people, and spark off ideas for contemporary or historical stories. These can be developed and written up into poems, short stories or feature articles.
