Geography |
The study of geography at KGV stimulates an interest in and a sense of wonder about places. It helps our students to make sense of their own experiences in Hong Kong, whilst also challenging them to explore issues affecting our complex and ever changing world.
Students grow to appreciate the factors that shape our landscapes, how places are interconnected, how people and their environment interact.
Geographical enquiry at KGV encourages students to question, investigate and think critically about issues affecting the world, now and in the future.
Students learn to think spatially using maps, images and geographical information systems (GIS). They collect, present and analyse information within an enquiry framework. Fieldwork plays an integral role in this, with students investigating issues ranging from the future of Mui Wo through to sustainable development in Northern Thailand.
Geography encourages students at KGV to become responsible citizens, understanding their responsibility towards other people, to the environment and to the sustainability of the planet.
Students are encouraged to explore the links between these issues so that they understand the interrelationships between the human and natural world. The curriculum is also designed so that these issues are investigated at a range of scales, from local to national to international to global.
