Drama

Drama is a thriving subject at KGV and is taught across the age ranges. The department is housed in 3 fully equipped drama studios and is at the beginning of a process that will see it move to a purpose built Performing Arts building in 3 years time.

All students in Years 7 to 9 have drama lessons, with a specialist teacher, at least once a week. The programme of study at this level equips the students with basic performance knowledge and understanding, as well as communication and group work skills. It aims to build confidence and draws its curriculum content from across the globe.

In Year 10 and 11 students have the opportunity to opt for GCSE Drama and is a popular choice with in excess of 70 students following the course every year. The programme of study is wholly practical and aims to deepen performance understanding as well as equipping the students with independent working, creative thinking and critical evaluation skills.

In Years 12 and 13, the department follows the IB Theatre Arts course and is a popular Group 6 choice. The programme is wide-ranging and exposes students to traditional and contemporary theatre practice from an international perspective. At this level the study is both academic and practical and aims to engage the students as independent learners, thinkers and researchers.

The department has three full-time teaching staff as well as three part-time members and is ably supported by a full-time technician.
