Assessment and Reports |
Assessment
At KGV our aim is for assessment to improve learning, not just measure it and we have revised our assessment policy to reflect our student centred philosophy.
Assessment is an integral part of the teaching and learning process. Its main aim is to enable students to become better learners and more confident, independent and reflective thinkers. Assessment should promote student progress throughout the school and further education. It is an essential part of raising students' achievement and should support and motivate the learner. It should allow achievement and progress to be demonstrated, recognised and celebrated.
Communication about Student Progress
There is one communication about student progress each term. This may be in the form of a report or a parent consultation meeting.
Reporting
Each year a reporting schedule is provided for parents in September to give information about report content and key dates. Written reports inform parents how their child is performing in relation to their potential and past achievements. Furthermore, written reports recognise particular strengths and identify areas for development.
Parent Consultation Meetings
Parent Consultation Meetings are held for each year group and are organised with an appointment system.
We believe these consultation meetings should:
| • |
Provide an opportunity for all parents to discuss the progress and learning of their children
|
| • |
Provide opportunities for parents to further understand the work students are doing in class, possibly by providing concrete examples of student work
|
| • |
Provide opportunities for parents to understand how students are assessed
|
| • |
Result in an agreed understanding between the parent, teacher and student of the student's current achievement and the outcomes to be achieved
|
| • |
Conclude with an agreement on how the student's future progress will be supported by the teacher, parents and student
|
An online reporting system is currently under development.
