Alec Reeve Memorial Match Report

Last Friday, KGV had a match against KGV Alumni at KCC starting at 1:30. KGV Alumni won the toss and they chose to bat. KGV Alumni had quite a strong batting start and in total 4 people retired after making more than 30 runs. KGV started off with a slow start and gave quite a few runs, however they managed to slow down the run-rate. Sourav managed to take a wicket in his 2nd over by giving a slower delivery, therefore the batsmen tried to hit it for a boundary and it was easily caught by Abhinit. Kalhan bowled a beautiful spell, decreasing the Alumni run rate by a lot. He gave 26 runs in 5 over with 1 maiden over. Sourav played his magic again by bowling to his brother and taking his wicket and after which he took another wicket in the same over, both wickets being caught by Kalhan. Avinash started his spell with quite a few good overs, giving only 17 runs in his first 3 overs. Dhananjay managed to get his rhythm properly in his 4th over in which he only gave a single run. In the end KGV Alumni made 220 runs in 25 overs and only lost 3 wickets.

KGV had to make 221 runs in 25 overs for a win. Aarush and Vishesh went to open making a slow start as they were getting used to the bowling but the bowlers kept varying the bowling, which didn’t allow the batsmen to get used to it, putting them under pressure. Aarush went for a drive, but the mistimed the ball and it went for a catch straight to the fielder. Kalhan went 1 down and played a spectacular innings, retiring after just 7 overs. However the spotlight was stolen by Gaurav, as he went in towards the end but was hitting the ball amazingly. The highlight of the whole innings was Gaurav hitting a six on the last ball of the innings against Devang. There were quite a few boundaries up the order, especially by Vishesh, Kalhan and Gaurav. KGV came out with 132 runs for 8 wickets in 25 overs and lost to the Alumni. However, the match itself was played in good spirit and was a great learning experience for the whole team.

We would like to thank Mr Paul Varty and the rest of the Alumni Association for organizing the Alec Reeve Memorial game, which we look forward to playing every year. The Alumni won this year’s trophy, but the inaugural Bharat Gopel trophy for the best bowler of the day was awarded to Kalhan Challu – well done Kalhan!
